Hey guys.

For this blog post, I was asked to change a shower head for someone and I decided it would be great to give a step by step run down on how to do it.

The old stem and the shower head will be replaced by a new stem and shower head.
These two parts are all that would be needed. This  is for shower mixers that are in wall and are commonly used in homes in T&T.

Tools and parts needed are as follows

1            1)      Stem ½ inch
2            2)      ½ inch shower head
3            3)      Pipe wrench
4            4)      1 roll of ½ inch thread seal.

The first step would be to unscrew the old shower fitting. Usually they can be un-tightened by hand but in the event that it doesn’t use the pipe wrench. The direction in which you will turn is in an anti clockwise direction.

Once it’s out, take the new stem and apply thread seal on both ends of the stem. Usually about 8 to 10 complete revolutions of thread seal will suffice.

                                                    Stem

Having done this, take your shower head and gently screw it unto the stem. Use the pipe wrench to tighten further.

                                                    New Shower Head

Be very careful not to cross thread the stem nor the shower head.

Having completed this, take the free end of the stem and carefully screw it into the wall in a clockwise direct. Please take care not to cross thread the grooves on the stem. Once this is completed turn on the shower mixer to see if there are any leaks.

If there are leaks, you may want to either
1                     1)      Tighten areas that are leaking further
2                     2)      Apply more thread seal to the area that is leaking and tighten further.

If there are no leaks, pat yourself on the back. Your project has been completed.
