The Right tools

I don’t know if anyone has seen the movie “ No Country for Old Men.” It’s directed by Ethan and Joel Coen about a drug deal gone bad and the assassin (Anton Chigurh) hired to  retrieve the money  played by Javier Bardem.  There is a scene in the movie that really stood out for me and I believe that its important and applicable to the life of any “do it your selfer”

[Anton has just shot the Man who hires Wells in the throat, and is standing over his body]
[to Nervous Accountant]
Anton Chigurh: Who are you?
Nervous Accountant: Me?
Anton Chigurh: Yes.
Nervous Accountant: Nobody... accounting.
Anton Chigurh: He gave the Mexicans a receiver. [Anton sighs]
Nervous Accountant: He feels... he felt that the more people looking[cut-off by Anton]
Anton Chigurh: That's foolish. You pick the one right tool.

You pick the one right tool. This is a clear message if any to individuals who are interested in completing tasks on their own. The “do it yourselfer” must acknowledge that the right tool is necessary.
Although at times we may want to cut costs and improvise however this should be done only when necessary. At some point a serious investment must be made in one’s ability to easily accomplish our tasks. A simple example would be where one tries to unscrew a screw with a hex head with a flat blade screw driver. What usually happens is that the flat blade screw driver will damage the head of the hex head screw thus giving the “do it yourselfer” more headache than expected.

Selecting the One right tool will save you from heartache, pain and unnecessary expense that will be incurred as the probability of damaging the item being worked on increases exponentially with the use of the wrong tool. As I prefer to commit myself to doing my own repairs I frequently go to the hardware and buy tools just to make my work easier.

It never hurts to invest in yourself and it saves you money in the long run. I mean as a DIY guy saving money is important.

Pick the one right tool.
