Lock changing

Today were going to  change a door lock set.
Apparently, the  existing lock that is here began to show signs of wear and tear and as a result the knob was not turning properly. So what were going to do is to disassemble the old lock and replace it with a new one.

What is good about this is that if your able to disassemble one lock your pretty much able to put it back together easily one time is taken to do so.

The diagram  above, shows the basic lock set. The ordered steps of the removal are as follows.

Old lock set
1) Put flat blade screw driver into the slot of the inner knob and at the same time pull the knob to release.
Remove the rose, and the unscrew the mounting plate.

2) Once the mounting plate is released the exterior components of the door knob will be released.
3) Unscrew the latch assembly and remove.

Once this is done you will be able to install the new lock easily using the same steps highlighted.

In the example shown bellow,  the original lock was slightly different, how ever the process  is almost the same.

Rose and door know made together, screws are visible.

Found an apprentice to help me remove the latch assembly.

New Lock installation

Latch assembly would not fit in the whole.

I had cause to use a drill and widen the whole that holds the latch assemble, as the new lock was slightly larger.
Used  a door hole saw kit to widen the hole

Installed new latch assembly

New Door knobs, internal and external.

Finished product.

  1. You made this so simple I think your apprentice could probably put one in right now! Thanks for empowering the average Joe (or Jane).
